Gaming/simulation is a tool for exploration, education, communication, and/or entertainment, either
with or without computers. Gaming is as old as mankind. In the past decades especially computer-
based entertainment games have become very popular.
Gaming/simulation is a powerful learning tool. It could offer its participants a safe, cheap, and
focussed replica of the real world, thus enabling authentic learning. The usual setting of
gaming/simulation sessions is a classroom where all participants together play the game at the same
time. Actual organisational and societal developments, ask for custom-made learning. Learning
should be just-in-time, and regardless time and place. Modern information and communications
technology (ICT) could make this happen. Concerning gaming/simulation this implies a growing
interest in asynchronous computer games played via Internet where participants do not have to
participate in the same room and at the same time.
Sofos helps government agencies and educational institutes to build their future with
gaming/simulation. As a consultant we share our overview of the gaming/simulation field with our
clients. As game developers we create custom-made or ready-made games and workshops. As
facilitator and sometimes teacher, we run our own games and workshops.
